A literary journal published by The Awakenings Project.
Established in 2000 with the support of the University of Chicago Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation, The Awakenings Review is a literary and visual arts journal devoted to publishing the creative work of people whose lives have been touched by mental illness.
Published by The Awakenings Project, the journal features poetry, prose, and artwork by individuals with lived experience of mental illness, as well as family members and friends. Submissions are selected for their literary and artistic merit and their ability to illuminate the human experience, particularly work that suggests movement toward recovery, understanding, and hope.
For more than 25 years, The Awakenings Review has provided a distinctive forum for creative expression, demonstrating the power of art and literature to challenge stigma and enrich our understanding of mental illness.
